STATEMENT/CV

Anastasia Theofanous is a mixed-media artist from New York City whose work explores the relationship between architecture, nature, and time. She draws inspiration from transitional spaces such as abandoned buildings, weathered walls, and overgrown structures, using layered materials like oil, dirt, and found objects to reimagine decay as a living, transformative process.

Studio portrait of mixed-media artist Anastasia Theofanous

“My work explores the relationship between human-made spaces, nature, and time. Through painting and mixed media, I reimagine these environments as surfaces where memory and decay overlap, allowing for new stories to emerge through texture and color. I work primarily in oil on wood panels and canvas, incorporating materials such as dirt, gesso, and found objects to create tactile, layered surfaces. These materials share the physical qualities of the environments that inspire me, linking my process directly to the sites I document.”
